10 Things People Don’t Know About Chiropractic Care.
10. Adjustments Don’t Hurt.
No, you’re not going to get your head ripped off, and your bones aren’t going to snap. It’s actually much gentler than you would imagine. Most patients who are new to the chiropractic route are pretty anxious about the thought of this. That sound you hear during the adjustment is called a “cavitation” and is only space being created within the joint causing gasses to be released from the joint capsule, which creates the popping noise.
9. “I heard you have to go forever” is a myth.
If you want to get adjusted forever, you can. When patients come in with pain, they are scheduled out for a month or two to make sure every stays balanced. Then occasionally they would come in, just to check up, like you could to get a check up at a dentist every six months.
8. Chiropractic care may help you get sick less.
Studies show that adjustments constantly reduce the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, associated with tissue damage and pain. Also, it may enhance the production of immunoregulatory complexes that are important to a healthy immune system.
7. Successful chiropractic patients accept responsibility.
In most cases, back pain doesn’t happen overnight, and even more importantly; the pain won’t go away over night. When someone says chiropractic didn’t work for them, 9/10 times the patient wasn’t fully dedicated to the regularly scheduled adjustment and advice the doctors gave.
6. We know about more than just your backbone!
Surprising right? Chiropractors will give advice on fitness, nutrition, ergonomics and lifestyle. The training is not much different than a medical doctor too. Chiropractors are also able to complete specialties such as pediatrics, sport rehabilitation, neurology, clinical nutrition and addictions and compulsive disorders.
5. Chiropractic is for all ages.
No patient is too old or too young for chiropractic! Infants are checked moments after birth. Parent take their children to a chiropractor to help encourage a healthy nervous system, along with colic, asthma, allergies, bed wetting, sleeping problems and behavioral problems. Senior aren’t always aware of the benefits of seeing a chiropractor that can help with pain relief, increase range of motion, balance and coordination, and decrease joint degeneration.
4. Doctors don’t do the healing.
We believe that your body is the perfect organism in its natural form. And all disease comes from a disruption in the body from naturally healing itself and fight against disease-causing agents.
3. Everything is connected through the nervous system.
The nerves that travel and control everything originate in the spinal cord. If the transmission is disrupted, it can cause certain issues besides pain. That’s why it’s not uncommon for a chiropractor to treat a patient with back pain who also has reproductive issues.
2. Athletes use chiropractors to stay well and perform better, not just for the occasional injury.
Athletes and chiropractors go hand in hand. That’s why so many chiropractors were spotted at the Olympics this year. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt and many more top athletes regularly see a chiropractor. This helps the athletes prevent injuries, improve balance, range of motion, and seep up injury recovery.
1. Pain is the last symptom of dysfunction.
Normally a patient’s back has been restricted or unstable for months before any pain starts to show. And importantly, the absence of pain is not health. And if you take any pain meds, the pain only goes away temporary, and the initial problem isn’t being corrected.
