5 Ways to Reduce Holiday Stress
Holiday time is always stressful, but to people who have chronic pain such as migraines and fibromyalgia can make the symptoms worse. Here at IFC, we want to make the holidays as peaceful and healthy for you as we can with these few tips!
- Set your priorities
Sometimes you just have too much on your plate, don’t feel pressured to do it all! Think about which holiday activity means the most to you and focus on that.
- Take time for yourself
This time of year is always busy, and you sometimes forget to take breaks. Schedule a time to just focus on yourself and do something you enjoy doing to relax. It’s never fun to burn yourself out during the holidays because you have so many plans on your days off.
Exercising has shown to reduce the frequency of migraines, as well as lessen the pain of sciatica and fibromyalgia. Ask your chiropractor safe ways to keep your energy level up.
- Be mindful of your nutrition
Holiday time usually means large meals, cookies and treats and drinks. It’s okay to indulge in moderation, over eating and eating due to stress will in turn make you feel worse. Your chiropractor can help advise you healthy eating habits and nutrition.
- Getting adjusted!
Finally, chiropractic itself can help manage your pain and stress levels. A recent 2010 study showed that chiropractic adjustments helped reduce levels of cortisol, a stress hormone known to cause inflammation and irritation.
Remember: it’s important to think of others during the holiday season, but thinking of your health is even more so!
