The industrialized world remains exposed to carcinogenic, hormone disrupting and disease promoting toxic ingredients in consumer products: personal care (PCP), cosmetics, food and household.

Although we believe that we are making informed purchases, the industries involved in the production of these products give highly misleading information.

At the same time the supposed regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), remains recklessly silent.

The FDA takes the passive yet dangerous position that the industry is responsible and accountable for the safety of its products.

Where have we seen this before? Does Wallstreet ring a bell?

Unregulated financial markets lead to the crash of the subprime mortgage industry leading to the 2008 financial crisis that we’re still feeling the effects from.

The difference is that it’s not our bank accounts being affected, it could be your best friend that comes down with breast cancer, or your father that develops prostate cancer.

This is not a doom and gloom article series. In this article I’ll show the realities of what is going on within this industry and how these products can affect you. Than in the second article you will get actionable steps to preventing disease, avoiding exposures and maximizing your health through living a healthy lifestyle design.

Cancer Strikes Nearly 1 In Every 2 Men And More Than 1 In Every 3 Women

More than 1 in every 3 women and 1 in every 2 men will develop cancer. If you’re a women reading this, you have a one in eight chance of getting breast cancer during your lifetime.

Many of the PCP that are commonly used by both men and women have been linked to the cause of cancer.

In 1989 the “Look Good… Feel Better” program began, which had the nobel vision of teaching cancer patients strategies to improve their self image following treatment.

This campaign was founded by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association now called the Personal Care Products Council (PCPC). The PCPC partnered with the National Cosmetology Association, to successfully give away roughly 1 million conventional PCP’s each year to an estimated 30,000 breast cancer patients.

This campaign has been supported by the American Cancer Society (ACS), which trains volunteers and acts as professional authorities promoting the program and its products.

Upon review of the Look Good kit products, 10 of the 12 products contain toxic ingredients.

Estee Lauder’s LightSource Transforming Moisture Lotion, Chanel’s Sheer Lipstick, and Merle Norman Eye Color, for instance, all contain ingredients incriminated as carcinogenic contaminated with carcinogens, or demonstrated to be precursors of carcinogens. 1

The Look Good products also contain parabens, which have been linked as a probable cause of breast cancer and hormone disruptor.

You may be thinking, “how could they get away with this?” One reason could be that the unregulated cosmetic and PCP companies donate a a minimum of $100,000.00 to the ACS. The “Look Good… Feel Better” campaign as you know is supported by the ACS.

The taxpayer funded National Cancer Institute focuses its resources on diagnosis and treatment, rather than helping people live an anti-cancer, disease prevention, healthy lifestyle, or on research into prevention.

There Are More Than 475 Chemicals That You Could Be Exposed To Every Day From PCP! 

A study published by Bionsen, a United Kingdom based company that sells aluminum free body products, found that the average women applies 515 chemicals to her face per day! 2

Many Of The 287 Synthetic Chemicals Found In Umbilical Cord Blood Are From Unlabeled PCP

Each day at least 3 PCP are applied to the skin of of children and infants. Women use an average of 13 PCP’s and six or more cosmetics while men use 10.  Many of the products are applied to the skin several times per day.

Of the 10,500 personal care and cosmetic products that are sold in North America, few have been properly tested for the affects on the human nervous, immune, reproductive and endocrine system. Nearly none of them have been tested for synergistic effects within the body.

A recent lab analysis of 72 products, ranging from perfume fragrances to hairsprays, deodorants, and body lotions, found that three-quarters of them contained unlabeled phthalates, according to the Health Care Without Harm and the Environmental Working Group (EWG).  3

It’s not just affecting our hormones, stress levels and disease progression, but it’s affecting and effecting our children. The EWG teasted the umbilical cord blood from newborns and found 287 synthetic chemicals where 180 of them were known to cause cancer in humans or animals. 4

This shows that the bio-accumulation of toxins within the mother is passing through directly to the fetus. Could this be one of the major underlying causes of autism in children? Where the child may be born healthy, but because their body burden is so high, a few more toxic exposures or vaccinations create a diseased state? Or could this put the child at greater risk of developing attention deficit disorder, depression, heart disease or even cancer later on in life?

Why Your Skin Is Not The Barrier You Think It Is

You are covered by around 10 square feet of skin! Your skin is on average one-tenth of an inch thick. Every square inch holds about twenty blood vessels, 650 sweat glands, and 1,000 nerve endings!

With how porous your skin is it actively absorbs much of what it comes in contact with.

What do you think poses a greater risk, food contaminated with pesticides and other industrial carcinogens or the carcinogens in PCP and cosmetics? If you answered the latter, you would be correct.

Why? Because consuming toxins and chemicals by mouth are passed into the gastrointestinal (GI) system. When the components are absorbed into blood within the walls of the GI track, it is passed through the liver. The liver can detoxify many of the environmental toxins through enzymatic reactions, breaking them down, before they enter the body.

In stark contrast the toxins and carcinogens found in PCP and cosmetics bypass the liver and enter directly into the blood stream. This can affect all the cells, tissues and organs within the body, without any protection.

In evidence presented at a 1978 Congressional hearing, the absorption of carcinogen nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA), was shown to be over the 100 times greater when exposure occurred on the skin than through the mouth. This is particularly important as consumption of hte closely related carcinogen diethylnitrosamine in nitrate-preserved bacon has been associated with up to four and sevenfold increased risk of childhoold brain cancer and leukemia. 1

The problem isn’t just one exposure. It’s being exposed to toxins and chemicals over and over again that start to bio-accumulate and stockpile within the body. You are born with a toxic burden that is already at a certain level. Then as the days, weeks, months, and years pass we’re talking about a massive level of exposure to these toxins.

I assume this is why one of the fastest growing populations of people that are seeking us out at Designer Health Centers are women that want to have babies or want to properly detox the cells of their body between children.

Dr Jones’ Helpful Conclusion

The great news is that there are solutions. To a large degree you can protect yourself against the toxins and carcinogens found within personal-care products and cosmetics. • The personal care products and cosmetics industry is largely unregulated.
• The average women puts applies over 515 chemicals to her face per day.
• The Environmental Working Group sampled umbillical cord blood and found 287 synthetic chemicals with 180 of known to cause cancer in humans or animals.
